After hours of exploring the muddy terrain at the base of the mountains, I discovered a rocky creek bed with only a small trickle of water flowing through it. Following the creek further, I came across a section where years of natural erosion had carved a series of small rock terraces, creating a delicate multi-tiered waterfall that I had never seen photographed before.
I returned to that location for four consecutive mornings, waking before sunrise and making the trek back through the mud, early spring rains, and melting snow. Each morning, I waited and hoped the conditions would come together—the right balance of light, clouds, and atmosphere.
On the fourth morning, they finally did.
